Benefits of Dog Harnesses

To harness or not to harness that is the question...

Dog harnesses have became a lot more popular in recent years, and there is a common misconceptions that they are only suitable for smaller breeds. However harnesses should be considered by owners of all sized dogs as they can assist in training as well as leash walking. Here is Ty's top 5 advantages for using a harness:

1. Choking and Injuries

It is highly recommended that owners whose dogs 'jerk or pull' on leads opt for a Harness option as the soft tissue in their neck can become damaged from excessive pressure.  Our Ty & I Harness design sits below the dogs neck and the leash is attached to a D-ring at the back between the shoulders. The pressure is therefore placed on the chest and body of the animal rather than direct stress on the neck.

2. Added strength

Harnesses are great for larger dogs as they give the owner more control as it discourages pulling and jumping. It is also easier for the handler and it reduces stress on their back and arms. On the flip side they are also great for smaller breeds that seem to always find a way to wriggle out of collars.

3. Tangling

There's nothing more annoying then going for your morning run/walk and having to stop multiple times to shift that lead that's caught under your dogs leg. Collars often jiggle and shuffle around your dogs neck however harnesses should not move and give a direct line for the leash between you and your dog reducing the impact of tangling. They are also a great training tool for puppies to learn how to properly walk on a leash.

4. Security

Many dogs may be nervous walkers therefor the harness offers them more protection to feel safe and secure. It is also a great safety tool when travelling as it can be directly attached to a dog seat-belt to secure your pet in the car.

5. Style and Flare

Lets be frank... How cute are dog harnesses. I know I get bored of the same old collar and lead so I love mixing and matching patterns to give my dog a new 'outfit' daily. It can make those walks that much more enjoyable and who doesn't want to have the best looking dog in the park.
